Sand Island Petroglyph Panel

It's well worth a 30 minute stop here – it's one of the largest panels in south-eastern Utah. There's even a restroom!

Just a few miles from Bluff, and beside the banks of the San Juan River, is a 50 yard panel of 800-2500-years old rock art with hundreds of petroglyphs, including 5 examples of the legendary Kokopelli (hump-backed flute player) figure. You'll also find some more recent Navajo and Ute art. More rock art can be seen by walking for around 20 minutes along the path adjacent to the cliffs.

Thousands of people pass by, few take the short detour just a few hundred yards along a good road to parking opposite the main panel. Turn off at the Sand Island sign.
