Just off I-70 and a few miles north of Thompson are several panels of Fremont & Barrier Canyon  and Archaic period rock art. They’re some of the best around so well worth a stop. Just north of the panels is the well-preserved mining ghost town of Sego.

To get there drive north from Moab to I-70, head east and take the Thompson exit187. Follow UT 94 to Thompson and drive 4 miles north of town to a signed parking area. The first set of panels are here. Others can be found a short walk away up the gravel road.

Sego can be accessed by driving up Sego Canyon Road for 0.5 mile to a fork where you head left into Thompson Canyon. The well-preserved ghost town is a mile beyond the old cemetery you'll pass. There is a wash crossing that may cause problems for some cars.

After viewing the historic rock art, head north on Sego Canyon Road. After about ½ mile, the road forks, with the left fork headed into Thompson Canyon, and the right fork heading into Sego Canyon. Take the right fork, which quickly leads to Sego’s old cemetery. The ghost town of Sego is about another mile or so on up the canyon.
